I'll give PotC 2 a five out of five!
The story was great, and very original. (I won't give out spoilers)
Jack is just as funny as ever! Really, this has got one of the best scripts ever. He's just as scoundral-ish, piratey, and wacky! Only this time, he's not a step ahead of everyone - he's running (er, sailing) for his life because he's outgunned. It's different to see him fleeing instead of fighting.
The special effects are fantastic - don't even let me get started on Davy Jones!! This guy totally had me fascinated! (I'm a fan of villains) I liked him better than Barbossa. There were times when I just wanted to hug him because he's the sort of villain you can identify with.
Elizabeth was a lot different - for the last half of the film she's dressed as a boy... which is certainly interesting to see, but I liked her better in the first.
Will Turner - oh boy. Wow. Orlando did such a good job in this movie; he should receive an Oscar or something. He's like the new Errol Flynn! He's the only main character that seemed the same from the previous movie. He gets to join up with pirates, and the result is chair-gripping adventure from start to finish.
I must say, there are quite a few of those "moments" that wow you. My personal favorite is the very end. (and make sure you stay after the credits; there's a little funny clip at the end)
The music is (in my opinion) better than the first; for those of you who have the soundtrack or intend to buy it, my favorites are "Davy Jones", "The Kraken", and "Hello Beastie". Jack Sparrows's theme is hilarious... the perfect "drunk" feel to the scallywag!
There's also a "He's a Pirate" techno remix as a bonus track..... who'd have thought?? XD
I am sort of tempted to rate PotC2 a four out of five, though. The beginning kinda confused me with Elizabeth in the rain, and there were a couple scenes I felt that could have been omitted (at the beginning before you see Jack Sparrow). It was more supernatural than the first, and although I didn't mind it, I know there are parents who are cautious about that sort of thing.
Overall, a great swashbuckling adventure that leaves you hanging and dying for the third Pirates movie to be released!!
